Favourite campaign of 2021 and why?

Beats by Dre – Live Your Truth featuring Sha’Carri Richardson; The Body Shop – Self Love Street; and gal-dem x Google – Black Joy
All three campaigns are authentic with meaningful and relatable messages, without being gimmicky or featuring oversaturated influencers.

Who is your communicator of the year?

There isn’t a singular person who I’ve admired this year, there are many! I’ve really enjoyed the collaborative efforts that have come out of the past couple of years and the platforms that have had boots on the ground, giving opportunities to up and coming change makers, whilst building space for independent journalism. Of course, I must salute gal-dem, for always being at the forefront of news and topics that speak to women and non-binary people of colour. Their recent coverage of COP26 and their approach to spotlighting the true impact of climate change and its effects across the diaspora should be recognised and commended. Also, a shout out to platforms like Black Ballad, Azeema and more, who provide spaces for wider conversations often affecting marginalised communities.

Favourite comfort food?

NACHOS, each and every time, with all the trimmings.

Person of the year?

Again, after the year we’ve had, I salute ALL OF US for making it through 2021, both personally and professionally.
There have been a lot of strides made in my field of advertising and marketing, thanks to both businesses being more open to authentic representation and inclusion, but also all of the individuals who advocated and fought for changes to be made in their industries. There are so many who go unrecognised, but they all deserve recognition as change can’t be made by just one individual.

Film you have watched more times than any other?

The honest answer is probably a Christmas movie. But let’s go with Goodfellas.

Sbali by Joe Nina or Lovestained by Hope Tala

Event you are most looking forward to in the next 12 months?

The return of the Fugees live in concert, if they ever actually make it to the UK!
