Favourite campaign of 2021 and why?

Black to Front by Channel 4. It is simple and yet so profound – because they featured dark skinned Black women and put them front and centre.

Who is your communicator of the year?

This is going to seem like a cop-out answer but I am going to say Eddie Jones, the current coach of the England Rugby Team. I may not agree with everything he says, but he knows how to get his key messages across and he has honed on this new-look England narrative for the Autumn Nations. To be honest I am a tad biased as I got to spend time with his PR and Communications advisor of 20 years, David Pembroke, earlier in the year on the podcast.

Favourite comfort food?

Boo and posho. It’s a Ugandan dish that makes me feel at home.

Film you have watched more times than any other?

Hacksaw Ridge and I cry every time.

Person of the year?

Oghenemaro Miles “Maro” Itoje.
This year he not only received his 50th cap with the England Rugby team, but he also became a patron of an educational charity, The Black Curriculum, which is focused on introducing more Black British history into the UK curriculum. If I am being honest, nobody celebrates on the pitch like Maro, he just radiates joy. He is a brilliant rugby player and has taken to the brand campaigns quite nicely for example with M&S, Under Armour and Sports Direct.

Song you can’t resist dancing to?

Ndihamba Nawe by Mafikizolo. It is our song to the shuffle.

Event you are most looking forward to in the next 12 months?

Going across the pond for my niece’s 3rd birthday next summer.
