Favourite campaign of 2021 and why?

I’ve been very impressed with the work of grassroot organisation FiveXMore, which has done a great job highlighting the disparities in maternal deaths among Black women in the UK. Although the campaign was already in full swing prior to 2021, FiveXMore really ramped up their activity this year, managing to get this important topic high up the news and political agenda. It’s a fantastic example of how grassroot organisations, led by people who have personal experience, are best placed to speak for themselves but through support of high-profile partners can increase their reach and create actual change.

Who is your communicator of the year?

Not your traditional communicator, but Marcus Rashford is top of my list this year (and I don’t even watch football!)
I loved how he used his profile to lobby the government on free school meals during lockdown! He didn’t hold back and managed to unite the majority of the country (bar a few heartless people) to get behind his campaign forcing a government u-turn! He’s a great example of ‘when to use your voice’, and that makes him a brilliant communicator in my books.

Favourite comfort food?

My dad is Ghanaian and most of the traditional Ghanaian cuisine is quite high in carbs. Give me fufu and peanut soup anytime and I’m happy, it’s the ultimate comfort food!

Person of the year?

Author and presenter Candice Brathwaite! I’ve loved seeing her profile rise after her first book ‘I’m Not Your Baby Mother’ and love how she has stayed true to herself despite now being well on her way of becoming a household name. She’s effortlessly stylish and all around seems great. Can’t wait to see more of her!

Film you have watched more times than any other?

I’m a real sucker for classic movies and love action/crime. Scarface and The Godfather are go-to films I’ll never get tired of.

Song you can’t resist dancing to?

Anything afrobeats – Dj Spinall/Fireboy DML ‘Sere’ has been on my ‘favourites’ list since last year (LOL)

Event you are most looking forward to in the next 12 months?

At this point I just want to go on a long, beach holiday! The last two years of the pandemic have been tough for someone like me who considers themselves as being a citizen of the world!
