Sanjani Shah is the Global Head of PR at The Body Shop. She has the lucky job of helping the company achieve its mission to fight for a fairer and more beautiful world. Pre-pandemic, she could be found on a tea tree farm in Kenya hosting a press briefing. Or in India, getting journalists to work hand-in-hand with waste-pickers to recycle plastic waste. Nowadays, you’ll find her waxing lyrical about the importance of self-love, a subject that inspired The Body Shop’s most recent campaign.

Her clients have included Orange, Microsoft, Monster and P&G. She also spent a year working with The Red Cross, helping reunite families separated by the genocide in Rwanda.

Sanjani grew up in Kenya and has lived in France and Singapore. She loves dark chocolate, crisps, meditating, and wild swimming. Her pet peeves are waste (of any kind) and her husband’s inability to load a dishwasher.

Favourite campaign of 2021 and why?

Balenciaga x The Simpsons at Paris Fashion Week.
Fashionistas were treated to a 10-minute special episode of The Simpsons, which ends with the characters strutting down the runway wearing Balenciaga. It was unexpected, hilarious and so memorable. I love the boldness of the fashion house to be able to troll itself.

Who is your communicator of the year?

Greta Thunberg. She’s eloquent, passionate and fiery. Her words have stirred up and rallied people all around the world. A standout voice in a sea of ‘blah blah blah’.

Person of the year?

Elsa Majimbo, a Kenyan comedian. She became famous during the pandemic with her satirical and gleeful quarantine videos. She’s had a stratospheric rise. One minute she’s making home videos, loudly crunching on crisps. The next, she’s attending the Met Gala and celebrating Diwali with Priyanka Chopra Jonas in LA.

Favourite comfort food?

Crisps all the way. Ideally sprinkled with chilli powder and a generous squeeze of fresh lemon juice. No, they don’t get all soggy, you just have to eat them fast. Don’t knock it before you try it!

Film you have watched more times than any other?

The Sound of Music.

Song you can’t resist dancing to?

London Thumakda. A soundtrack from Bollywood film ‘Queen’. Also my wedding soundtrack. Gets me every time!

Event you are most looking forward to in the next 12 months?

Visiting home (Kenya) and seeing my parents after two years.
