Shanil helps drive diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives

Shanil is an experienced and driven PR who has been in the comms industry for almost seven years, spending five of those years at Harvard. Previous and current experience spans across eCommerce, adtech and fintech clients. Outside of work, Shanil helps drive diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives as part of Harvard’s ‘Taking Action’ group and is the mental health lead for the agency, continuing to destigmatise what it means to reach out for wellbeing support.

Favourite campaign of 2021 and why?

Black Lives Matter.
It captured a moment like I’ve never seen – and forced governments and companies (Harvard included) to have conversations about race and inclusion that they had shied away from for too long.

Who is your communicator of the year?

David Attenborough.
His commitment and work to elevate the climate change issues facing the world will never be exceeded. We’ll truly never have another person like Attenborough that shows us why we need to care about the environment.

Favourite comfort food?

Mum’s chicken curry! Nothing else comes close.

Person of the year?

Marcus Rashford.
For someone who could easily focus on his football and nothing else, he became an inspiration for young people around the world. His determination to ensure people from less fortunate backgrounds have access to proper meals and care is second to none. He’s a genuine role model and inspiration – and that’s coming from a Liverpool supporter!

Film you have watched more times than any other?

The Matrix.

Song you can’t resist dancing to?

The Killers – Mr. Brightside.

Event you are most looking forward to in the next 12 months?

My own wedding!!
